Our Story

Foresters Arms Pub, Standish, Wigan

The Foresters Arms first opened in the early 1850’s under the name of ‘The Rose and Crown’, in the heart of Shevington Moor. In 1861, the landlord John Davenport, was noted on the census to be a tailor as well as a beer seller. Another record of a landlord was in 1901, a gentleman known as Thomas Sheffield was recorded to be a collier and beer seller.

Throughout the years the Foresters arms has changed hands and names multiple times, most recently it was known as the Silver Tally until last year. In the past year, the pub has been returned to its former glory, being renamed the Foresters Arms once again and undergoing a major refurb, becoming a country pub serving traditional fayre. What People are Saying

“Just enjoyed another lovely family meal at the Foresters. The staff are so friendly and accommodating, nothing is too much trouble. The Sunday roast was absolutely delicious and such good value, a very generous portion of tender beef and vegetables and the home-made yorkshire puddings were to die for!
We love it here and are already looking forward to the next time! Highly recommend”

“Excellent dinner at Foresters”

“Recently took dog to vet and the smell from kitchen at Foresters was fantastic so decided had to go back. Greeted by very pleasant staff who regularly checked if we needed drinks during meal. The menu was new to me and looked great. I had starter and main, trio of garlic bread to start and Cock and Bull a pub classic for main. All family agreed their food was great as well.
Had a wonderful pale ale to wash it down as well.
Definitely going back soon for more.”

“Best roast ever”

“We came on Easter Sunday the place was very busy so I expected it to be slow service, but it wasn’t at all.
I was spoilt for choice with menus. We all had the 2 course menu. The starters was delicious
and the mains were even better. I had the beef roast which was one of the best I had anywhere.
My wife and daughter had the salmon and chorizo which they both said it was delicious too.
I would highly recommend The foresters for a meal,”
